I have a honda pilot 2006 model, 100018 miles, developed a knock sounds like a light rod knock coming from the back side of the top end of the engine, was told probably the timing belt hydraulic tensioner. I guess it makes the same kind of noise. changed timing belt and all components. Knock is still there.
Aug 17, 2013 · Just replaced my belt tensioner with a brand new OEM one in an attempt to get rid of this noise I was hearing. Now I have this new noise that even louder! UPDATE: The belt tensioner ended up being faulty from the factory. The top pulley was grinding against the body of the tensioner itself which was causing the noise.
The noise disappeared right after I replaced the timing belt, water pump, and hydraulic tensioner at 95k miles. I remember cheering at 5am in the morning LOL (day after the repair) and I still have the factory water pump and tensioner on my shelf.

Well if it is a knock then it may have been there already and is more noticeable now that you have worked on it. If it sounds like a rod knock then it probably is. If it were related to the belt change, I would suspect that it would be more of a steady noise than a knock. i.e. tensioner bearing, water pump bearing, oil pump bearing.

Nov 01, 2016 · I have done a lot of researching online and it seems that the noise I am experiencing on cold start up is the timing belt tensioner going out. There are a lot of videos on YouTube that show this, but you have to search for phrases like "J35 timing belt noise" or "honda v6 timing belt noise". As stated above the car currently has 170k miles on it.
Maybe the recently replaced serpentine belt tensioner is applying more axial load onto the shafts and that is why I am getting this knocking noise from the PS pump. My next plan is to get a new PS pump and see if it'll take care of the noise. Questions: - Should I replace the water pump while I am at it? Both pumps are original (140k miles).

The timing belt sets the valve timing. It has to be put on exactly as spec’d, the alignment marks have to be aligned correctly simultaneously on the crankshaft and camshaft, otherwise the valve timing will be early or late. Early or late valve timing would likely cause a knocking noise too.

I have read several blogs that recommend replacing the timing belt at 60 or 90K. To err on the conservative side I decided just to do it at 120K. Now my problem. Before the timing belt change there was a slight knocking from one of the cylinders. After the belt change the knocking is more pronounced. Q.
